Description
‘Uzen nishiki’ is perhaps the most striking variegated Japanese maple cultivar yet. It leafs out in the early spring with thick pink to purple border on the green leaf. The interior portion of the leaf is filled with pink and white variegation. The leaf itself is heavily divided. As the purple border fades, the variegation seems to consume more of the leaf. Uzen nishiki is expected to form a great mid-sized tree reaching 8-10 ft in 15 years. Protection from the hot afternoon is recommended for best color. This is an extremely rare Japanese maple.
